The demand for shark fin soup has risen sharply. Many species of shark are decreasing in number and are threatened by extinction.

Be careful when buying or collecting seashells and corals. All stony corals, those with a hard, outer calcium carbonate skeleton, are protected and require a CITES certificate. This also applies to pieces of dead coral found on the beach.
